What happened
At Rangiora High School in North Canterbury, students used AI software to generate fake explicit "deep nude" images of at least 15 fellow students, both male and female, by digitally removing clothing from legitimate photos, which then circulated among peers. The principal reported the matter to police, who launched an investigation, and the school held an assembly, supported affected students and notified parents. Netsafe warned the tools can drive cyberbullying, harassment and mental-health harm, and pointed to civil remedies under the Harmful Digital Communications Act.
