Privacy

A register of harms must not cause new ones. Here’s what we collect, what we publish, and what we never do.

The short version

  • You can report without giving your name or email.
  • We never publish names, contact details or anything that identifies someone.
  • We don’t sell or share your information.
  • You can ask to see, change or delete what you sent us.

What we collect

When you report: what you tell us in the form, any links or screenshots, and your email if you choose to give it. When you browse: [describe analytics, for example “anonymous page counts with no tracking cookies”].

What we publish

Only a checked summary of the incident: what happened, when, the region and the type of harm. We remove names, exact locations, screenshots of people and anything else that could identify someone, including the person who reported it.

How we store it

Reports are stored [where] and only [who, for example “our reviewers”] can see them. We keep original reports for [period], then delete them. Published entries stay on the register.

Your rights

Under the Privacy Act 2020 you can ask to see the information we hold about you and ask us to correct it. You can also ask us to delete your report. If you’re unhappy with how we handle it, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner.
